Work out screen size, throw ratio and mounting distance
Throw ratio = throw distance ÷ image width. Knowing any two of the three values lets you solve for the third: use distance and throw ratio to find screen size, or screen size and throw ratio to find throw distance. The tools below cover both directions — pick the one that matches the information you already have.
Screen Size Recommender
Enter the viewing distance from your seat to the wall and convert it into a suitable screen diagonal using THX and SMPTE viewing-angle standards.
Best for: You have not chosen a screen yet and want a starting size
Start calculatingAspect Ratio Converter
Convert between diagonal, width and height, and see the actual image area and black bars for 4:3, 21:9 and other content on your screen.
Best for: Your screen size is fixed and you want to check width, height and black bars
Start calculatingThrow Distance Calculator
Given the screen size you want and your projector throw ratio, calculate how far the projector should sit from the screen.
Best for: Your screen is fixed and you need to place the projector
Start calculatingScreen Size Calculator
Given the distance from projector to wall and the throw ratio, calculate how large an image you can project and the matching screen diagonal.
Best for: Room and projector are fixed and you want to work out the image size

| Room depth + screen size | Required throw ratio | Divide the two: throw ratio = distance ÷ image width |
Before you start
This is optical distance, not mounting position
The tools return the optical distance from the lens center to the projected image. For installation you must also add the body length (lens to mount bracket for ceiling mounting) and rear ventilation clearance, plus a margin for adjustment.
Use the datasheet throw ratio
Throw ratio is an optical parameter of the projector; a zoom version of the same model is usually a range (for example 1.2–1.5:1). Datasheet values carry a tolerance, so refer to the product datasheet for precise installation.
Keystone correction and lens shift are not included
The tools assume an ideal light path. With keystone correction or lens shift enabled, image size and position can change slightly, so leave some adjustment margin around the calculated distance.
